Conclusion
Haven't looked or felt as good in a long time - not just my view,
corroborated by the nearest and dearest. Skin blemish free. Eyes
white and even, dare I say, sparkling! Lost 7 lbs in weight - I
didn't really need to lose it but at least the stomach's flatter.
Really enjoyed breaking the fast on Day 8 - honeydew melon to start
then some plums - seemed like a good combination at the time. Fruit
never tasted so good. (Pink tongue too!)
Salads and steamed vegetables (courtesy of new steamer purchased
from Tesco's) now feature regularly in my diet. Haven't had anything
sweet - chocolate, biscuits or whatever for ages. My palate has
changed for the better - more alkaline according to our mentor (and
source of inspiration for the week), Jos-hua.
The main thing for me was discovering that even I could muster the
willpower to abstain from booze (ten days) and food for a week without
really trying. The immediate visual benefits of clear complexion,
bright eyes and flatter stomach were a good boost to morale and
would, I'm sure, have considerable appeal to those about to bare
all on the beach on their summer holiday or wanting to look their
best for the 'big day'.
Perhaps the most sustainable long-term benefit which I derived from
the whole juice-fasting process, was a much keener appreciation
for the junk that I have been putting into my system for longer
than I care to remember and a new awareness of the 'live' foods
which are downright beneficial to the body.
It wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. Would I do it again?
Not next week, but I do remember how good I felt by day seven and,
now that I know the ins and outs (mostly outs) next time would definitely
be easier. It has certainly re-educated my palate because even now,
more than a month after the end of the fast, my weight remains a
half stone below my old fighting weight - so something has definitely
changed in my eating patterns! Yes, okay, maybe once a year would
absolve me of my eating and drinking sins.
